The lattice Boltzmann method has been developed in the past twenty some years to a high degree of maturity with an impressive array of novel applications. The phenomenal success was mostly achieved along a path parallel to the continuum kinetic theory rather than as a derivative. In the recent years, a fundamental connection between the two has been established which provides a fruitful way for tackling some of the subtle issues in the lattice Boltzmann method. In this talk, some tangling issues in LBM theory will be discussed in the light of continuum kinetic theory.
